Free 1st Grade Math Games

First to 100

First to 100 is a snakes-and-ladders type game where you have to move along the board from 1 to 100.

There are lots of special squares which may mean you get a penalty or a bonus depending on the color you land on.

For this game you will need 2 dice, and some counters.

Grade: 1st Grade and up
Number of players: 1-4.
Learning skills: Counting up to 100, learning how to use a 100 square, adding up 2 small numbers from 1 to 6.

Classify It! Game #2

Classify It Game #2 is a good 1st grade math game for getting children to develop their understanding of different math vocabulary such as odd and even, equal to, greater/less than and between.

It also helps to develop quick recall of addition facts of 3 small numbers.

Number of players: 2-3.
Learning skills: add 3 small numbers; odd and even; greater than and less than.

Empty The Chests

Empty The Chests is a fun strategy game where you have to place coins inside 3 different chests.

Depending on your dice roll, you can remove a coin from one of the chests.

However, some chests are more likely to be rolled than others, so you have to place your coins carefully at the start.

Race to 10

Race to 10 is a simple addition game which involves adding up the numbers on several dice to reach a total.

The aim of the game is to add up the dice correctly and be the first player to reach 10 points.

Learning: Adding several small numbers together from 1 to 6.

Blast Off!

Blast Off! is a cool Maths game which uses mental calculation skills and rolling dice to make different numbers.

It is suitable for children at 1st Grade, but is also suitable for older children.

For this game you will need 2 dice, and some counters.

Number of players: 1-2
Learning: adding and subtracting numbers to 6 make a total from 0 to 8.
More able children can also use multiplication and division to make the numbers from 0 to 8.

Race to the Moon - Addition & Subtraction to 10

Race to the Moon is a math game designed to improve quick recall of addition and subtraction facts to 10.

For this game, you will need some colored counters for each player.

Learning: adding and subtracting to 10.

Catch the Stars

Catch the Stars is a cool maths game which uses mental calculation skills and rolling dice to make different numbers.

It is similar to the game 'Blast Off!' but with a star theme.
It is suitable for children at 1st Grade, but is also suitable for older children.

For this game you will need 2 dice, and some counters.

Learning: using different operations to make numbers to 12 with 2 dice.

Salamander Shoot Out to 12

Salamander Shoot-out is a Math game which uses mental calculation skills and rolling dice to make different numbers.

There is also strategic thinking involved in picking out numbers for your opponent to try to shoot out.

For this game you will need 2 dice, and some counters.

Salamander Combine It!

Salamander Combine It! is a place value game that consolidates adding of tens and ones together.

It is a simple game to play, and only required different colored counters.

Score points for each line of 3 counters you make.

Trap the Spiders

Trap the Spiders is a place value game that consolidates adding of tens, fives and ones together.

The aim of the game is to score as many points as possible by trapping spiders on their webs.
