Converting Metric Units Worksheets
On this webpage, you will find a range of measurement riddles to help your child learn to convert between different metric units of measurement.
There are two different riddles on each page, and each riddle has its own set of 8 possible answers.
The sheets have been designed for children working from 3rd grade to 5th grade.
Each sheet has an A and B version.
- the A version of each sheet involves converting units in whole numbers only with no decimals
- the B version of each sheet is more challenging and involves converting units where the larger unit has different decimal values up to 2 decimal places
Using these converting metric units worksheets will help your child to:
- convert between mm and cm
- convert between cm and m
- convert between m and km
- convert between g and kg;
- convert between mL and L.
- round different metric measurements to the nearest unit
- compare metric measurements

How our Riddles Work
How to solve our Metric Unit Riddles
Each of our riddles consists of a set of clues and 8 possible answers.
In order to solve the riddles and find the solution, follow these simple steps:
- Work your way through the clues
- After each clue, cross off any of the possible answers that are invalidated by the clue
- Once you have completed all the clues, there should just be one possible answer left which has not been crossed out.
- This is the solution to the riddle!
Solving a Metric Units Riddle Example
We will show you the steps to solve a basic measurement riddle with just 6 possible answers below.
Let's start with the first clue: I am shorter than 8 cm.
If we look at all of the possible answers, then all of them are shorter than 8 cm (which is equal to 80 mm) except for two.
The two answers which are incorrect for this clue are 9 cm and 83 mm.
We cross off both these answers from our possible answers list.
We can also tick off the first clue.
Now we move on to the next clue: I am longer than 5 cm.
We can see that this time, just one of the measurements is not longer than 5cm (50 mm) which is 38 mm.
So we can cross off this answer from our list, along with the second clue.
Moving on to the third clue: I am an odd number of mm long.
There are 3 measurements left:
- 74 mm which is an even number of mm
- 6 cm 5 mm = 65 mm which is an odd number of mm
- 5 cm 8 mm = 58 mm which is an even number of mm
This means that we can cross off 74 mm and 5 cm 8 mm from the list.
We have finished all the clues and we only have one possible answer left, so we have found the solution to the riddle.

1 km = 1000 m
1 kilometer = 1000 meters

KEY FACTS - VOLUME
1 L = 1000 mL
1 liter = 1000 milliliters

Converting Metric Units Worksheets: Length Riddles
Sheets 1A and 1B involve converting between mm and cm. Sheet 1A uses integer values only, Sheet 1B involves decimal values.
Sheets 2A and 2B involve converting between cm and m. Sheet 2A uses integer values only, Sheet 2B involves decimal values.
Sheets 3A and 3B involve converting between m and km. Sheet 3A uses integer values only, Sheet 3B involves decimal values.
Converting Metric Units Worksheets: Liquid Volume and Weight Riddles
Sheet 1A involves whole number values only. Sheet 1B involves decimal values up to 2 decimal places.
