How to convert from feet and inches to cm
Step 1) Convert the feet into inches.
1 foot = 12 inches, so we need to multiply the amount of feet by 12.
Step 2) Find the total number of inches by adding the number from Step 1) to the number of inches.
Step 3) Multiply this number by 2.54 (because 1 inch = 2.54 cm)
How to convert from cm to feet and inches
Step 1) Convert the cm into inches.
1 inch = 2.54 cm so we need to divide the number of cm by 2.54 to convert it into inches.
Step 2) Convert the inches into feet.
1 foot = 12 inches so we need to divide the number of inches by 12 to convert it into feet.
Step 3) We now have the number of feet, the inches left over from the division are the number of inches.
1) Convert 5 foot 3 inches into cm.
Step 1) We need to convert 5 foot into inches.
5 x 12 = 60 inches
Step 2) We need to find the total number of inches.
60 + 3 = 63 inches
Step 3) We need to convert this to cm by multiplying by 2.54
63 x 2.54 = 160.02 cm
So 5 foot 3 inches = 160.0 cm (to 1dp).
2) Convert 187cm into inches.
Step 1) Convert the cm to inches.
187 ÷ 2.54 = 73.62 (to 2dp)
Step 2) Convert the inches into feet.
So 73.62 inches = 6.14 feet
Step 3) Work out the inches left over
6 feet = 6 x 12 = 72 inches
So 73.62 inches = 6 feet and 1.62 inches
So 187 cm = 6 foot 1.6 inches (to 1dp).
