A nautical mile is used to measure distances at sea. It is equal to 1 minute of the Earth's latitude.

It is slightly longer than a 'normal' mile.

So 1 knot = 1.15078 miles per hour.

How to convert knots to mph

To convert an amount from knots to miles per hour, you just need to multiply the amount by 1.151 (to 3dp).

This is because 1 knot = 1.151 miles per hour (to 3dp).

1) Convert 12 knots into miles per hour.

To convert from knots into mph we need to multiply by 1.151.

12 x 1.151 = 13.8 (to 1dp)

So 12 knots is 13.8 mph to 1dp.

2) Convert 25 knots into mph. Give your answer to 1dp.

To convert from knots into mph we need to multiply by 1.151.

25 x 1.151 = 28.775

So 25 knots is 28.8 mph to 1dp.

3) What is 100 knots in mph? Give your answer to the nearest mile per hour.

To convert from knots into mph we need to multiply by 1.151.

100 x 1.151 = 115.1

So 100 knots is 115 mph to the nearest whole.

4) How many miles per hour is 42 knots? Give your answer to 1 decimal place.

To convert from knots into mph we need to multiply by 1.151.

42 x 1.151 = 48.342

So 42 knots is 48.3 mph to 1dp.
