Scientific to Standard Notation Calculator

Welcome to our Scientific to Standard Notation Calculator.

This converter will take a number in scientific notation and convert it into standard notation.

The converter will also show you the number in 'E-Notation' (also called Scientific E-Notation).

Our converter will also show you working out so you can understand how the process works!

Please note: in the UK, scientific notation is also called standard form.

Our Scientific Notation to Standard Notation Calculator

Our Scientific Notation to Standard Notation Calculator will help you to convert any number written in scientific notation (or standard form in the UK) to standard notation.

  • The number will also be converted to E-Notation, standing for Exponent Notation, which is a notation that computers and some calculators use for numbers.
  • E-Notation is very similar to scientific notation, but uses an E or e and then shows the exponent.

The converter shows the Order of Magnitude, which is the exponent (or power of 10 needed) when representing the number in scientific notation.

The converter will also show you the steps needed to help you understand how the conversion takes place.

How It Works...

Step 1) Type in the number you want to convert in scientific notation of the form:

a x 10^b

  • where a is the coefficient which is a number with an absolute value greater than or equal to 1 and less than 10
  • b is the exponent which is an integer (whole number) between -30 and 30 for the calculator to work.

Step 2) Click the Convert button and the answer will be displayed.

Here are some examples of scienfic numbers you can try:

  • 8 x 10^7
  • 2.53 x 10^4
  • -9.5 x 10^3
  • 2 x 10^-7
  • -6.2283 x 10^-2
