At a kindergarten level, children need to be able to recognise basic shapes such as squares, circles, triangels and rectangles.

These worksheets have been designed to help children learn their shape names and also what the shape looks like.

There are also shapes to trace on each worksheets to help children improve their fine motor skills.

Using these sheets will help your child to:

  • recognise a range of 2d shapes - squares, rectangles, circles and triangles;
  • carefully trace a range of different 2d shapes;
  • trace the name of different 2d shapes.

Tracing Shape Worksheets

The worksheets on this page have been split into two sections - a section which just involes tracing shapes, and another section which involve both tracing and writing the correct name for each shape.

Most of the shape tracing worksheets also come in 2 versions, one which just involves tracing and another version which involves both tracing and independent drawing of the shapes.

There are also US and UK versions of several sheets as the definition of a trapezoid and trapezium differs between the 2 countries.
