Examples

Example 1: Convert 3 5 into a percentage.

To convert the fraction to a decimal we divide the numerator by the denominator.

So we calculate 3 ÷ 5 = 0.6

Next multiply by 100 to change it to a percentage.

0.6 x 100 = 60

This means that:

3 5 =   3 ÷ 5 = 0.6 = 60%

Example 2: Convert 14 9 to a percentage.

First, we calculate 14 ÷ 9 = 1.556 (this decimal has been rounded to 3 decimal places)

Next multiply by 100 to change it to a percentage.

1.556 x 100 = 155.6

So we now have

14 9 =   14 ÷ 9 = 1.556 = 155.6% (to the nearest decimal place)
