Comparing Numbers to 100

Welcome to the Math Salamanders Greater than Less than Worksheets for 1st Grade comparing numbers up to 100. Here you will find a wide range of free printable Math Worksheets, which will help your child learn to compare and order pairs of numbers to 100 and also to use the symbols > , < and = correctly.

A good visual way to describe how to use the greater than and less than symbols is to imaging a crocodile's mouth.

The crocodile is a greedy creature and will always try to eat the biggest number, so his mouth always faces the largest number.

In the case above, 15 is larger than 12 so he turns to eat number 15, showing us the *greater than* sign.

In the case above, the larger of the two numbers is 24, so he turns to eat that number, showing us the *less than* sign.

There are a range of worksheets on this page which all help your child learn to compare and order numbers.

They are also a great and easy introduction to using the greater than (> ) and less than (< ) symbols.

The sheets are arranged in order of difficulty with the easiest sheets first.

The easiest sheets involve shading the bigger of two numbers, then using the correct symbol to compare the numbers.

The harder sheets involve evaluating expressions such as 30 + 5 and using the correct symbol: > , < or = to say how it compares with a number.

Using these sheets will help your child to:

- compare numbers to 100;
- use > and < symbols correctly
- compare numbers and simple expressions with each other.
