By the time children get to preschool, most of them will be able to count up to 10, and some of them may reach quite a bit higher.
However, what many of them will not be able to do is to count objects accurately, even small numbers up to 5.
They need to learn 1:1 correspondence and to have a system for counting where they count each object once and once only without missing any out.
