Welcome to our Convert Fractions to Decimal support page.
Here you will find information and support about how to convert a fraction into a decimal.
We have several worked examples as well as a link to our fraction to decimal calculator and a practice sheet.
Our fraction to decimal calculator will convert any fractions to a decimal and you can choose what degree of accuracy you wish.
To convert a fraction to a decimal, you need to understand that the fraction sign — and the division sign ÷ are actually the same!
So in other words: \[ {a \over b} \; = \; a ÷ b \]
If you use a calculator, it is quite easy to convert a fraction into a decimal. If you do not have a calculator, you can still convert a fraction into a decimal using long (or short) division.
We calculate 3 ÷ 8 = 0.375
So we have: \[ { 3 \over 8 } \; = \; 0.375 \]
We calculate 9 ÷ 20 = 0.45
This gives us: \[ { 9 \over 20 } \; = \; 0.45 \]
We calculate 1 ÷ 5 = 0.2
This gives us: \[ 4 { 1 \over 5 } \; = \; 4 + 0.2 \; = \; 4.2 \]
We calculate 13 ÷ 4 = 3.25
This gives us: \[ { 13 \over 4 } \; = \; 3.25 \]
