How It Works

### What are Minutes per Mile?

Minutes per mile mean how many minutes it takes to travel a mile.

It is very different from most other measures of speed.

With most speeds like miles per hour, the higher the number, the faster you are going.

But this is not the case with minutes per mile!

• the larger the number of minutes per mile, the slower you are traveling (you are taking more time to travel a mile)
• the smaller the number of minutes per mile, the faster you are traveling (you are taking less time to travel a mile)

Example

Tyger travels at 4 minutes per mile. Captain travels at 3 minutes per mile.

Who is traveling faster?

Tyger takes 4 minutes to travel a mile, but Captain only takes 3 minutes to travel a mile, so Captain is traveling faster.
